YOUNGSTOWN
A Mahoning County grand jury indicted a Struthers man, who was a Poland Township religious school principal, on four felony counts of sexual battery.
Christopher Stivers, 31, of Idora Lane, who was principal of Gospel Baptist School and assistant pastor of the church bearing that name, was arrested in November and charged with sexual battery of a 14-year-old girl, according to a police report.
Police Chief Brian Goodin said police received a call from the girl’s parents after she told them what allegedly happened.
The victim and her family attended Gospel Baptist Church, according to a statement from the church.
In another matter Thursday, the grand jury indicted Sean Bing Dixson, 39, of 8th Street, Struthers, on charges of felonious assault, assault and obstructing official business, with a firearm specification, domestic violence and endangering children.
Dixson, 39, allegedly held law-enforcement officers at bay during a 41/2-hour standoff in November at an 8th Street home.
Four children with him in the home were uninjured. Police said Dixson got in an argument with his girlfriend, which escalated into the standoff. The woman left the house and contacted police.
In another case, the grand jury indicted Cameron Dyer, 30, of Ohio Avenue, Youngstown, on a felony charge of disrupting public services for an altercation with firefighters before Fire Lt. Paul Lutton, 46, was wounded by gunfire in December. Dyer has not been charged with wounding the firefighter.
Police said Dyer was upset with firefighters before the shooting because he thought they weren’t doing enough to save a burning Elm Street home on the North Side.
Police Lt. Doug Bobovnyik said one of the reasons Dyer was upset was that he had $10,000 in drug money stashed in the vacant house. Bobovnyik said Dyer is a self-admitted drug dealer.
Reports said Lutton was driving back to Station No. 7 about 11:25 p.m. after leaving the fire on Elm when he was hit by a round from an assault rifle, which passed through the door of the fire truck he was driving.
Another firefighter inside the truck was grazed by a bullet. Lutton was treated at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Firefighters at the scene said Dyer argued with them, then drove away. A short time after he drove away, Lutton was shot.
City Prosecutor Dana Lantz said Dyer drove over fire hoses several times, got out of his car and yelled at them.
The grand jury also indicted Scott Spencer, 25, of Hood Drive, Canfield, on misdemeanor charges of ethnic intimidation and criminal mischief in connection with anti-Semitic graffiti found in Mill Creek MetroParks in September.
The chalk messages appeared on roads and paths and on Mill Creek Park boat docks.
