The Victorian Players Theater ‘Greetings’ is new age ‘Coming to Dinner’
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
The Victorian Players Theater will present “Greetings!” for six performances, beginning Friday.
The play has been described as a new age “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” comedy — a two-hour family spat over religious beliefs and other sensitive topics.
The play, written by Tom Dudzick, Andy, (Nick Mulichak), has a sweet Catholic mother (Vicki Rossi), a sour Catholic father (Tom Gilmartin), and a younger brother named Mickey (Don Connors), who is severely developmentally disabled.
When Andy brings his Jewish atheist fiancee (Selena Phillips) to meet the folks on Christmas Eve, his strained relationship with his parents reaches the boiling point. But through Mickey, an ancient, wise, and witty spirit intervenes, intent upon healing the family.
Nick Mulichak is the director, assisted by Heleena Huncik. The cast includes Mulichak, Vicki Rossi, Tom Gilmartin, Don Connors and Selena Phillips.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and again on Jan. 20 and 21; and at 2 p.m. Sunday and Jan. 22. The theater is at 705 Mahoning Ave. Tickets are $13 ($10 for students and senior citizens); for reservations, call 330-746-5455.
