STRUTHERS

The city administration has reached a tentative contract agreement that gives pay raises for the police department’s four captains.

The proposed three-year pact calls for increases of 2 percent this year, another 2 percent in 2018 and another 2 percent in 2019. The captains are represented by Lodge 41 of the Fraternal Order of Police Union.

“I think it’s a fair and equitable agreement,” Mayor Terry Stocker said Wednesday.

Under their current contract, captains earn $47,604 annually. By the end of the new contract, they will make $50,517 annually.

The captains’ new contract will come up for approval by council at its next regular meeting Jan. 25.

Council recently approved a three-year contract for the department’s 11 full-time patrolmen. Patrolmen are receiving base pay raises of 2 percent this year, another 2 percent in 2018 and 1 percent in 2019.

Lodge 41 also represents the Struthers rank-and-file police officers.

In other business, the city’s 2016 income-tax collection increased by 7.2 percent as compared with the previous year. Struthers collected $3,397,781 in 2016.
