Mahoning Valley’s auto sales down in 2016

The Mahoning Valley’s auto sales in 2016 didn’t surpass 2015.

A total of 52,979 new and used vehicles were sold in 2016, according to data released Wednesday by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.

In 2015, the Valley had 55,507 sales.

Total December auto sales decreased slightly in the Valley with 4,277, down by 56 from December 2015.

New-vehicle sales in the Valley were down by three to 2,520 in December. For the year, new sales were down by 1,442 to 29,776.

Used sales were down by 60 to 1,696 for the month of December, and down by 1,182 to 22,300 sales for the year.

In December, the top three dealers with the most new and used-vehicle sales were Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown; Sweeney Chevrolet of Boardman; and Stadium Chevrolet Cadillac GMC in Salem.

The top three new auto dealers for the month were Sweeney Chevrolet, Greenwood Chevrolet and Stadium.

The top three used-vehicle dealers in December were Donnell Auto Group of Boardman; Greenwood Chevrolet; and Taylor Kia of Boardman.

The top three new models in December were the Chevrolet Equinox with 388 sales compared with 189 sales made in December 2015; the Chevrolet Silverado with 97 sales compared with 183 in December 2015; and the Chevrolet Cruze with 96 sales compared with 207 made December 2015.

The top three used models during the month were the Chevrolet Cruze with 80 sales, up from 59 in December 2015; the Ford Escape came in second with 66 sales, compared with 48 made in December 2015; and the Ford F-150 came in third with 54 sales, compared with 51 made in December 2015.

The auto industry had another record-breaking year with 17.55 million vehicles sold in 2016, up from 2015’s record of 17.47 million.
