Sharon man shot to death by officer
SHARON, PA.
A domestic assault at 369 Tamplin St. resulted in the fatal shooting of Sean Marie Hake, 23, by a Sharon police officer late Friday.
According to Pennsylvania State Police’s Mercer Station, Sharon police responded to a domestic assault about 11:48 p.m. after receiving a 911 Emergency Center call reporting a stabbing at the Tamplin Street address.
After being on the scene, the incident escalated and an officer-involved shooting occurred in which Hake was shot and killed by a member of Sharon Police Department, who was placed on paid administrative leave until the investigation is complete.
State police said it would not disclose any information about the evidence in the case other than to say the scene has been processed and more interviews will be conducted.
Eye-care grant

Through the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, Sight for All announced it has received an $11,115 grant from the Jane R. Polena Fund of the Western Reserve Health Foundation. The funds will support people in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties who need eye-care services, but are not able to pay due to no insurance or high deductible insurance. Sight for All is supported by 37 Doctors for Sight, in the tri-county area and beyond. The Eye Ball of the Mahoning Valley raised more than $100,000 and catapulted the organization into operation. Sight for All was founded by Karen Segesto, VP senior client adviser PNC Wealth Management, and Dr. Sergul Erzurum, associate professor of surgery, NEOMED vice chairwoman, Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group, NIH.
Historic farms
LISBON
The Ohio Department of Agriculture added 118 new farms to its Ohio Historic Family Farms program, including the Bates, Greenisen and Lippincott farms in Columbiana County that were established in 1915, 1916 and 1840, respectively. The program recognizes farms that have been owned by the same family for at least 100 years. The families received certificates signed by Gov. John Kasich and David Daniels, director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture. More than 1,300 farms in the state are currently registered with the voluntary recognition program.
McDonald Council seeks to fill seat
MCDONALD
McDonald Village Council is accepting letters of interest to fill the vacant council seat. Letters can be addressed to President Pro Tem Michael O’Brien at the Municipal Building, 451 Ohio Ave., McDonald, OH 44437. The deadline is Wednesday.
Crime-watch meeting
NORTH LIMA
The next Beaver Police Department crime-watch meeting is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at Shepherd of the Valley, 9111 Sharrott Road.
Beaver Police Chaplain Ralph Edwards will be the guest speaker. The meeting also will cover local crime statistics. The program is open to the public.
