The election of Anthony M. D’Apolito, former magistrate and administrator of Mahoning County Juvenile Court, to a Mahoning County Common Pleas Court judgeship has resulted in several leadership changes at the juvenile court.

Wes Skeels, chief juvenile court probation officer for the past 10 years, became juvenile court administrator Monday, Judge Theresa Dellick of juvenile court has announced.

Before joining the juvenile court staff here, Skeels was a probation officer in the sex crimes unit at the Summit County Juvenile Court and a parole officer at the Ohio Department of Youth Services, twice being named “Parole Officer of the Year” while working for the state.

Judge Dellick also announced the appointment of Tim Novak as her court’s chief probation officer.

After starting his career in 1993 as a Youngstown City Schools teacher at the juvenile detention center here, Novak became a juvenile detention center supervisor in 2000 and was promoted seven years later to day reporting program director.

Last week, Judge Dellick announced her choice of Carla Baldwin to assume Judge D’Apolito’s previous magistrate duties.
