McNally files nominating petitions for 2nd term

YOUNGSTOWN — Mayor John A. McNally became the first person in Mahoning County to file nominating petitions for an elected position this year.

McNally turned in petitions with 142 signatures today to the Mahoning County Board of Elections. He needs 50 of them to be valid to qualify for the May 2 Democratic primary.

McNally said he welcomes competition in the mayoral race and expects his opponents to go after him for his four misdemeanor convictions last year in the Oakhill Renaissance Place corruption scandal.

However, McNally said he is focused on the accomplishments of his administration during his first term as mayor including a reduction in crime, an increase in demolitions and more economic-development projects.

Feb. 1 is the filing deadline for the primary.
