Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.: Join us at the nature center for a music jam. Bring an instrument or just come to listen. Beginners are welcome. Make new friends, have fun and learn a new tune or two.

Resolution Hike

Sunday, 2 to 4:30 p.m.: Resolve to exercise more during 2017? Join our steady but moderate pace around Lake Newport, which produces fabulous scenes in every season of the year. Moderate/difficult, 5 miles.

Recreational Hike

Jan. 11, 9 a.m.: Join our volunteer-led recreational hike and walk at your own pace. Easy, 1 or 3 miles.

Children’s Nature Hour

Jan. 12, 10 to 11 a.m.: Children age 3 to 5 with an adult are invited to join us for a reading of the beloved children’s book “Stranger in the Woods.” We’ll discuss the book, create an edible ornament for the birds and hand-feed chickadees.

Where: Ford Nature Center, 840 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown.

Cost: $4 for Mahoning County residents; $6 for nonresidents. Register at the center by Jan. 10

The Snow Moon

Jan. 13, 7 to 8:30 p.m.: On Friday the 13th, there will be a full moon night hike. Participants will walk to discover why some American Indian tribes referred to this month’s moon as the “snow Moon.” Moderate, 2 miles.

Jan. 14, 11 a.m.: Are you and your canine companion experiencing cabin fever? Come shake it off and enjoy a beautiful winter hike. End the hike with some hot chocolate and a campfire. Moderate, 1 mile.
