Family court gets state certification

The family dependency court of Mahoning County Juvenile Court has earned its final certification from the Ohio Supreme Court’s Commission on Specialized Dockets.

“It is both the mission of our court and our responsibility to the children of Mahoning County to address the challenges resulting from parental alcohol and substance abuse,” said Judge Theresa Dellick of the county juvenile court.

“When parents commit to our intensive family dependency treatment program, they are taking the first step to changing their lives, and, by doing so, the lives of their children,” she added.

Award for MCCTC

Auditor of State Dave Yost announced Mahoning County Career and Technical Center received the Auditor of State Award for its clean audit reports.

The award is presented to local governments and school districts upon the completion of a financial audit. Entities must file timely financial reports with the auditor’s office in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

The audit report cannot contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, single-audit findings or questioned costs.

Farm-insurance forum is set Friday

The Ohio State University Extension Service, 490 S. Broad St., will host a Lunch & Learn event on farm insurance from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

Participants will learn how to understand what is and is not covered in their policy. Current trends with crop insurance will also be covered. Nationwide Insurance agent Jen Pemberton will speak on crop insurance, and Tony Daprile will speak on farm policy.

Trip to DC inaugural

COLUMBIANA

When Donald Trump takes the oath of the office to become the 45th president of the United States, 37 students from Columbiana County high schools will attend.

This is the fifth presidential inaugural trip for county students.

The group also has been selected to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery at 12:15 p.m. Jan. 21. Students will have the opportunity to attend a student Inaugural Ball, tour the D.C. Mall and monuments, visit many of the Smithsonian Institution’s exhibits, and view the Sept. 11 Pentagon Memorial. The four-day, three-night trip will end at The Holocaust Museum on Jan. 22.
