NEWTON FALLS
The Newton Falls Police Department and Trumbull Homicide Task Force are investigating the death of a man on Ridge Road early Saturday as a possible homicide.
A woman called Newton Falls police to 615 Ridge at 12:37 a.m., where they found a man, 49, dead in the bedroom from a gunshot wound to the head in a second-floor apartment, police said.
The homicide task force is “called in for any suspicious death as a standard procedure,” according to a news release from Newton Falls Police Chief Gene Fixler.
“At this time it has not been determined if this was a homicide or an accident, as the matter is still under investigation, and facts will be presented to the prosecutor,” Fixler said.
Man cited in crash
HOWLAND
The Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper cited a Warren man for running a red light at the intersection of Howland-Wilson Road and state Route 82, causing a collision hospitalizing three people Friday night.
According to a patrol news release, Thomas Webber, 21, ran the traffic light traveling westbound on Route 82, striking a driver turning left from Howland-Wilson at 7:29 p.m.
The collision sent the vehicles traveling off the corner of the intersection, striking a utility pole. Webber and two other passengers in his vehicle were transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries. The driver of the other car was also transported to the same hospital for serious injuries.
Township police and fire responded to the crash and assisted in the investigation.
Vacant seats on boards

The Trumbull County commissioners are seeking to fill a seat on these boards – Western Reserve Port Authority, the Senior Services Advisory Council and the Children Services Board.
Candidates should submit a letter of interest along with a current resume to the Board of Trumbull County Commissioners, 160 High St. NW, Warren, OH 44481 by Jan. 9.
Tree disposal
WARREN
City residents can dispose of live Christmas trees at the vacant lot at the corner of Summit Street and Tod Avenue Northwest through Jan. 31, according to a news release from the mayor’s office.
All decorations and tree stands must be removed before dropping off. No Christmas trees will be removed during regular curbside trash removal, the mayor’s office said.
Ex-WFMJ anchor dies
YOUNGSTOWN
Laura Steele, former news anchor for 21 WFMJ-TV, died Friday morning in Canton at age 46.
According to the TV news station, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, Steele was a co-anchor on the 21 News 6 and 11 p.m. broadcasts from 1998 until 2004, before moving on to WGRZ Television in Buffalo, N.Y., where she anchored the news.
She is a graduate of Chippewa High School and attended Malone University in Canton.
Arrangements are being finalized by Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home in her hometown of Doyles-town, Ohio.
