The Oscars have been handed out for 2016, and while it might be too soon to predict the contenders for 2017 movies, it’s just the right time to look at some noncontender blockbusters that will be hitting theaters in the coming months. Here are five:

v “Logan”: This film, focusing on the X-Men character Wolverine (played by Hugh Jackman), opens Friday.

v “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”: The surprise hit returns for a sequel May 5.

v “Transformers: The Last Knight”: Humans and Transformers are at war in the next installment of the franchise, directed by Michael Bay. Release date is June 23.

v “Spider-Man: Homecoming”: This new solo adventure will hit the multiplexes July 7.

v “Dunkirk”: Epic World War II battle will be brought to the big screen by director Christopher Nolan on July 21.

“The Voice” (8 p.m., NBC): Season 12 of “The Voice” begins with the Blind Auditions as Gwen Stefani returns to the coaches panel. Now if only she and the others can finally discover a singer we’ll remember.

“When We Rise” (9 p.m., ABC): Guy Pearce and Mary Louise-Parker head the cast of “When We Rise.” It’s an emotionally powerful four-part, eight-hour miniseries that recalls the 50-year history of the gay-rights movement and shines a light on the activists who led the way.

“Taken” (10 p.m., NBC): Inspired by the film franchise, “Taken” is a turbo-charged new drama series that follows the origin story of a younger, hungrier former Green Beret Bryan Mills (Clive Standen) as he deals with a personal tragedy that shakes up his world. Jennifer Beals also stars.

‘Owl, Woodpecker’ exhibit at Fellows

YOUNGSTOWN

An exhibit titled “The Owl and the Woodpecker” opens Saturday at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Way, and runs through May 21.

The exhibit focuses on the most important species of these two birds, with photographs and informative texts. It illustrates how these birds define and enrich the habitats on which they depend, and highlights the critical importance of conserving those habitats.

“The Owl and the Woodpecker” is a traveling exhibit from the Burke Museum in Seattle. It is based on a book of the same title by Seattle photographer and author Paul Bannick, who is known for his intimate wildlife photography and support of environmental conservation efforts. His work has appeared in major magazines and field guides.
