Harvest for Hunger campaign begins Wednesday
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
The Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley’s 26th annual Harvest for Hunger food and funds campaign will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The purpose of this event is to help stock the food bank shelves for the spring and summer months when donations taper off. Financial contributions can be made at Giant Eagle by tearing off a $1, $5, or $10 coupon at the register March 5 through April 15 and at participating Sparkle Markets March 5 through April 30. Donations are added to the bill.
Last year, Harvest for Hunger raised $203,107 and collected nearly 33,000 pounds of food. All funds raised and food collected remains in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. The food bank is at 2805 Salt Springs Road.
This year’s sponsors include Giant Eagle, 21 WFMJ-TV and WBCB, The Vindicator, Cumulus Radio Stations HOT 101, K-105, Rock 104 and Y-103, and UFCW Local 880.
Anyone interested in conducting a drive should call 330-792-5522, ext. 102, or visit www.mahoningvalleysecondharvest.org to download a registration form.
