Cifra leads Struthers to D-II district bowling title
CANTON Adam Cifra’s strong outing led the Struthers boys bowling team to the Division II district title on Saturday at AMF Hall of Fame Lanes in Canton.
Cifra’s day was a see-saw affair, but it ended with him the second-best overall finish in the tournament at 628. He bowled 214 in the first game, stepped back with a 169 in game 2 before rebounding in game three wth a 245. Struthers’ team score was 3865.
Struthers had top 15 finishes from Cameron Coppola (567) and Jarrod Sawyers (565), who took 14th and 15th place, respectively.
Girard (3606) took fifth place and is moving on to the state tournament. Dylan Puz led the Indians with a score of 568, good for 13th place individually.
The Mahoning Valley had two individual qualifiers on Saturday.
Brookfield’s Michael Katko had the fifth-highest score, putting up 625 on the day. Champion’s Zach Johnson finished in eighth place with a score of 574.
On the girls side, Lowellville’s Hayie Rotz was the individual runner-up with a score of 557.
Southington’s Susan Decker also qualified individually, finishing eighth overall with a score of 526.
In team play, Hubbard and Brookfield have qualified for the sate tournament.
Hubbard took second with a team score of 3112. Sabrina Romano led the Eagles, bowling 478 to take 21st place.
Brookfield took fifth, scoring 3112 as a team. Emily Bebech was fifth overall individually with a score of 536.
