Michael Price, 12, a seventh-grader at Discovery Transitions to Careers at Volney, is the Youngstown City Schools District’s Student of the Month. He was the only Volney student to earn Straight A’s on the first grading period report card. “Michael is a leader in our building and always has a smile on his face. We are proud to have Michael as a student at Volney,” wrote Principal Denise Ormerod. Michael though isn’t one who seeks the spotlight, she said. He was happy when he learned he was selected as January’s Student of the Month.

“I wanted someone from here to get it,” Michael said, referring to his school. “People think this is a bad school and we’re not bad.”
