Police found shell casings, blood and bullet holes late Wednesday but no victim after responding to a gunfire call on the South Side.
Officers were called about 11:15 p.m. to a home in the 200 block of Ellenwood Avenue, where a woman told them she had been awakened by gunfire and made her sure her 2-year-old grandson, with whom she was sleeping, was safe.
Reports said witnesses at the home told police they were outside talking to several men in a car when they heard shots and ran back toward the home. The car drove away, reports said.
Other witnesses told police a group of people on East Warren Avenue had been feuding with a group of people on Ellenwood Avenue, so police went there and found a car with blood on one of the doors but no one was around.
At the home on Ellenwood, police said there were several bullet holes and officers found another blood stain on the road around a cluster of six .22-caliber shell casings, reports said.
Reports said officers checked with local hospitals but none reported any gunshot victims.
