Dobbins Elementary Math 24 competition team competed at the third annual county-wide Math 24 Competition on Jan. 24 at Campbell Elementary and Middle School.

Five members of the team were semifinalists, and Dobbins’ Henry Grenzig was the “Overall Fourth-Grade Champion.”

Dobbins Principal Mike Daley said all fourth-graders had weeks of practice in an after school program, and had the option to try out for the competition team.

“Often giving up recess and lunch with friends, these ten students committed to additional practice in order to improve their skills in preparation for competition,” said Daley. “Our students represented Poland graciously and with great competitive spirit against the best players from other area schools.”

The Math 24 Challenge is a tournament-style competition organized around the “24 Game.” The game objective is to use math equations to get a solution of 24 from the numbers provided. Nearly 150 students from several county schools competed in the tournament.
