Ohio GOP to meet

Ohio GOP to meet

HOWLAND

The Ohio Republican Party’s State Central Committee is expected to meet Friday to determine which of two factions will head the divided Trumbull County GOP.

At a meeting Wednesday at Howland Community Church, Kevin Wyndham was elected chairman by a 44-9 vote by a group that earlier ousted Trumbull GOP chairman Randy Law. Law, however, says the action was illegal, and he is the legitimate leader.

Wyndham, of Howland, said the results of the election were sent after the 90-minute meeting to the state GOP Central Committee which will decide between him and Law and make its recommendation to the Secretary of State.

Sidewalk funds sought

STRUTHERS

The city hopes to put in a sidewalk on the west side of Garfield Street from Manor Avenue to Wilson Street.

Mayor Terry Stocker will apply for up to $400,000 from the Safe Routes to School program, which is federal money funneled through the Ohio Department of Transportation with the purpose of making it safer for children to walk to school.

Struthers has been denied three times previously when applying for a Safe Routes to School grant. However, Stockers said he is hopeful this time around because the city is using state Transportation Alternatives Program funding to put in a sidewalk on the east side of Garfield Street.

She said she was trying to move out of their home because of relationship issues when Williams repeatedly punched her in the face. Williams drove her to the hospital afterward.

Police arrested Williams in an exam room. A judge entered a not-guilty plea for him during his arraignment Tuesday.

Mohn pleaded guilty to vandalism and burglary. Police collected blood evidence at the crime scene, and it came back as a match for Mohn.

He got six months in the county jail Jan. 19 for being one of four teens who broke into a building at the Niles Middle School late Aug. 18 then, a short time later, burned down a building at the football stadium.
