Musicologist to lecture at YSU

YOUNGSTOWN

Musicologist Nathan Kruse will give a free lecture at 4 p.m. Friday in Bliss Recital Hall, on the lower level of Bliss Hall, on the Youngstown State University campus.

His lecture is titled “Community Music, the Aging Process, and Lifespan Learning: Directions in Adult Music Participation.”

Kruse is an associate professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

‘Jack and Beanstalk’ children’s opera

YOUNGSTOWN

Opera Western Reserve Young Artists will present “Jack and the Beanstalk” at 3 p.m. March 5 in the ballroom of Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave. Tickets are $5 at stambaughauditorium.com.

The children’s opera is also available for performances in school classrooms and auditoriums. Teachers can reserve a performance for their school or classroom by calling 330-480-0693 or emailing admasst@operawesternreserve.org.

YSU Concert Band plans performance

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown State University Concert Band, conducted by Brandt Payne, and the YSU Percussion Ensemble, directed by Glenn Schaft, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave. Tickets are $6 ($5 for students and senior citizens) and can be purchased in advance by calling 330-259-0555 or at stambaughauditorium.com.

Admission is free for those with a YSU identification card. Free parking is available adjacent to Stambaugh Auditorium.
