SWIMMING

The Boardman and Austintown Fitch swimming programs will be sending members of their team to the state tournament next weekend in Canton. The top two at each of the four district meets plus the next best 16 finishers earn state berths. This is the 18th consecutive year Boardman will have swimmers competing in Columbus. At Saturday’s Division I district meet at Cleveland State, Boardman placed second in two events. The 200 Medley Relay of Matthew DunLany, Noah Basista, Kyle Kimerer and Callen Aulizia finished with a time of 1:35.07. The 400 Freestlye Relay of the same crew finished in 1:04.75. Both times were school records. Basista also broke a school record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.85 for seventh place. Boardman head coach Terry O’Halloran was named DI Northeast Swimming Coach of the Year. For Fitch, Timothy Kubacki finished first in the 100 Backstroke and second in the 200 IM to qualify for the state meet. In Division II, the Canfield boys have qualified for the state tournament in four events. Kamran Sarac will be seeded 21st in the 100 Freestyle and Cullen Brady will be seeded 24th. Sarac and Brady will join Bobby Kutsch and Lake Bennett as the fifth seed in the 200 Freestyle Relay and eighth in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
