Second bank robbery

BOARDMAN

Police are still looking for leads to find the person or people responsible for a bank robbery Saturday morning.

Police Chief Jack Nichols told 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, the First National Bank on Tippecanoe Road was where the robbery took place.

The chief said police are investigating, but the FBI has been notified of the situation.

Nichols said the department will send out a news release with more information at a later time.

It is unknown if police have any suspects or how much money was taken from the bank.

The bank is closed due to the holiday weekend.

This is the second robbery in Mahoning County in two days.

An Austintown man was charged Friday with robbing a bank in Canfield.

Hubbard road blocked

HUBBARD

The entrance to Triangle Drive in Hubbard was blocked by police Saturday afternoon while a warrant was served due to suspected criminal activity in a residence in the 700 block of the street.

According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, several Ohio State Highway Patrol vehicles left the scene with lights and sirens on.

Personnel from the Hubbard Police department and the Mahoning Valley Task Force assisted in the investigation. No charges were filed as of press time.

Rusyn history lecture

HERMITAGE, PA.

‘‘Uncovering and Publishing the History of Pennsylvania’s Carpatho-Rusyns,” will be the topic of a free lecture by Richard Custer, a founder of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society, at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 2230 Highland Ave. Custer is the author of scholarly and popular articles concerning Rusyn history. His lecture is sponsored by the Youngstown-Warren-Sharon Chapter of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society.

Crews respond to fire

NORTH JACKSON

A house fire in Jackson Township caught the attention of several local fire departments late Friday night, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner. The fire started at a vacant house on New Road about 7 p.m. Crews from Jackson, Lordstown and Ellsworth helped put out the flames. When crews arrived, they found no fire hydrants nearby, and the house was already fully engulfed from the basement to the roof. There was no word on the cause of the fire Saturday.
