Carpatho-Rusyn history lecture

The Youngstown chapter of Carpatho-Rusyn Society will present a free lecture by Richard Custer titled ‘‘Uncovering and Publishing the History of Pennsylvania’s Carpatho-Rusyns” at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 2230 Highland Ave. Everyone is welcome, especially students and history buffs.

Custer has amassed a collection of source material that is being assembled into the most comprehensive look at the history of Carpatho-Rusyn communities anywhere in the world. He will speak about this project and also about the unique situation of Rusyns in northwest Pennsylvania.

Custer co-founded the C-RS in 1994, and served as editor of its New Rusyn Times newsletter until 2016. He is the author of articles on Rusyn history and the blog “The Carpatho-Rusyns of PA” (rusynsofpa.blogspot.com).
