The Catholic Charities Regional Agency has started the 2017 calendar year with new officers on the board of directors.
The new officers are: Terry Supancic, president; Father James Lang, first vice president; Peggy Trebus, second vice president; Ted Thornton, secretary; and Robert Green, treasurer. Incoming board members are Teresa Todd, East Liverpool; Celeste Baronzzi, Salem; Frank Bordonaro, Mineral Ridge; and Michael Metzinger, Youngstown. Recognized outgoing members are Father Christopher Cicero, Columbiana; Ginger Grilli, Salem, Sister Joan Franklin, Leetonia; and John Finizio, Poland.
Outgoing members were recognized with a gift from Wendell August Forge. Special recognition was given to Mary Ellen Andersen, retiring president and CEO of the Diocese of Youngstown Catholic Charities Corp.
S.O.S. youth concert

The Place Where The Lord Provides, 104 W. Evergreen Ave., presents S.O.S. second annual youth concert “We Sing Praises To His Name” at 4 p.m., Feb. 26.
Special guests are Minister Barbara Toney (Temple Deliverance Chapel of Ministry), Elder Arkeylla Thomas and music director Sister Kathy Reed.
The public is welcome.
Course covers basics of prison ministry

An upcoming course offered by the Office of Lay Ministry Formation of the Diocese of Youngstown will cover the basics of prison ministry for those who are interested in learning about this important ministry. This course will meet on six-consecutive Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning March 2 at Christ the Servant, 833 39th St. NW, Canton.
Participants will learn how to get started from a theological, logistical and practical ministry perspective all in the context of prayer, fellowship and networking with others interested in prison ministry in Stark and Portage County. The course also will discuss other opportunities, such as ministry to the families of those incarcerated and re-entry ministry.

All artificial flowers and decorations must be removed from graves, monuments and mausoleum crypts before March 1, from the Diocese of Youngstown Cemeteries including Calvary and Resurrection Cemeteries in Youngstown, All Souls Cemetery in Cortland and Calvary Cemetery in Massillon.
‘Winter Warm-up’

The annual “Winter Warm-Up” at St. Rose Church will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 26 in the St. Rose Rosetta Hall, 48 E. Main St.
In keeping with the church’s celebration of its 125th anniversary, a variety of soups will be sold at $1.25 per large bowl. Take-outs will be sold after the 7:30, 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Masses. Pizza also will be sold, as will baked goods and pop. Tickets are available at the parish office ahead of time or will be sold at the door for $1.25.
An “All Gift Card” auction is planned. Gift cards or monetary donations toward their purchase are needed. Donations can be dropped off in the Sunday collection basket or at the parish house. Put them in a sealed envelope marked: Attention: Jan Knight. Write your name and the words “Auction” on the outside of the envelope.

Mardi Gras night set

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish is hosting an Ash Wednesday pizza and calzone sale. All dough and fillings are homemade, using Southern Italian recipes. Brier Hill “red” pizza is $6, calzones with potato or spinach filling, $10 each, or combo (mixture of potato and spinach), $10 each. Spinach with raisins and hot combos are available for $10 each.

Haas, True to perform, conduct workshop

Come share an energizing faith experience through song and prayer with liturgical composers David Haas and Lori True at 7 p.m. March 3 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Drive.
They will perform their well-known and latest compositions in concert. Their recordings, books and music collections also will be available for purchase after the event.
On March 4, the pair will conduct the retreat/workshop “A Day of Music, Reflection and Prayer” from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at St. Luke Church, 5235 South Ave. Lunch will be included. All are welcome.
The parishes of St. Luke, St. Charles and St. Patrick, Youngstown, are co-sponsoring the events for the benefit of The Ursuline Center’s ministries.
