Monday Night Writers to meet on Feb. 20
The next meeting of Monday Night Writers will be Feb. 20 from 6-8 p.m. in the small meeting room at the Canfield branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, located at 43 W Main St. in Canfield. Area writers, both published and unpublished, are invited to attend. Led by professional writer Nancy Christie, author of “Traveling Left Of Center and Other Stories,” the two-hour sessions offer an opportunity for members to get group feedback on ‘works-in-progress.’ For more information, contact Nancy Christie at nancy@nancychristie.com.
JWL hosts “Step Back in Thyme Tea”
The GFWC Ohio Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League will host a “Step Back in Thyme Tea” that will benefit Mahoning County Women And Children’s Shelters. The “Step Back in Thyme Tea” will take place at The Poland Presbyterian Church, located at 2 Poland Manor Dr. in Poland, on March 11 at 1 p.m. The cost is $20 per person. The tea includes lunch, special herbal teas, a basket auction and more. Ellen Speicher will present “English Gardens” - A pictorial visit to several spectacular gardens in England along with scenes from the world-famous Chelsea Flower Show. Pink Ribbon Golf Classic to be July 17
The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will take place at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club on July 17. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society. Historical Society to meet
The Poland Historical Society will meet at the Little Red Schoolhouse on Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. The Schoolhouse is located at 4515 Center Road (Route 224 and Struthers Road intersection) in Poland Township. Regina Rees will be the guest speaker at 7:30 p.m. with a presentation: “William Holmes McGuffey History.”
ECOT honor roll
The Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow (ECOT) announced that 1,374 students were named to the school’s latest “Honor Roll” or “Honor Roll with Distinction.” Students ending each quarter with a 3.0-3.499 GPA for that previous semester are named “Honor Roll” and students with a GPA of 3.5 or above will be named “Honor Roll with Distinction.” Among the 650 students named to the “Honor Roll with Distinction,” Ireland Holcomb of Poland made the list.
Overeaters Anonymous to have local meetings
Overeaters Anonymous is offering meetings at several local locations and on a variety of days. On Saturdays at 10 a.m., there will be a meeting at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in the Church Hall, Room 2, located at 4453 Warren-Sharon Road in Vienna, Ohio. This location is handicapped accessible. On Sundays at 7 p.m., there will be a meeting at Shenango Presbyterian Church, located at 3144 Wilmington Road (Route 18) in New Castle, Pa. This location is handicapped accessible. On Mondays, a meeting will take place at 1 p.m. at the Girard Multigenerational Center, located at 443 Trumbull Avenue in Girard. This location is handicapped accessible. On Wednesdays, a meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Valley Care - Northside Medical Center in the Medical Education Building, auditorium A, located at 500 Gypsy Lane in Youngstown. GA to meet twice
Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting is offered every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another is offered every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (in Cornersburg). Both meetings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and last about 1-1/2 hours. Those who believe gambling has affected any part of their lives are urged to attend. Lions host Treasures of the Trunk Sale
The Poland Lions will host a “Treasures of the Trunk Sale” to benefit the Poland Lions Scholarship and Community Funds on June 10 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Poland High School stadium parking lot. The Lions are currently looking for venders for the one-day sale, including crafters, home goods, furniture, toys, specialty items and venders with garage sale items. There is a limit of 100 spaces, so reserve your space early. Registration is $10 per one parking space prior to May 1. After May 1, the cost is $15 per space. Venders must bring their own tables. Bonding with babies and books and signs, oh my!
Come to the Poland library on Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. and learn how to use American Sign Language (ASL) with your child through rhymes, songs and stories, followed by time to play and socialize. Learn easy corresponding signs to learn and share with your little ones.

Join the Poland library every Thursday in February at 10:30 a.m. for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (ages 2-3) become a successful reader.

Lego my library
Meet and enjoy creating Lego designs at the Poland library on Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. Legos will be provided. This event is for children ages 6 and up.
Read to Roxie
Relax and read to Roxie at the Poland library on Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. Roxie is a registered therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International. Trim a tree for February
Decorate an ornament for the all-seasons tree at the Poland library during library hours in February. This event is for children of all ages.
Yoga class
Friends of PLYMC is sponsoring a Yoga Class every Wednesday in the Poland library meeting room from 5-6 p.m. Pay as you attend at $10 per session.
