Harding to open after gun threat

Harding to open after gun threat

WARREN

Warren G. Harding High School will open today after a threat closed the school Tuesday.

The threat indicated there would be gunfire at lunch Tuesday, one caller to the Trumbull County 911 center said. Several people called the 911 center about the threat at a little after 9 p.m. Monday, police said.

21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, reported that police kept a presence outside the high school Tuesday. Staff members were still asked to report.

Steve Chiaro, Warren superintendent, said it’s not clear whether the threat referred to Warren’s high school because it only mentioned “harding.”

Harding’s boys basketball game against Ursuline was postponed until today because of the threat.

Armstrong Cable internet outage

Armstrong Cable’s internet service went out between 8:50 and 9 p.m. Tuesday, and as of press time, the outage was not resolved.

According to Armstrong’s website, nearly 650 complaints came in from customers in several areas in Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Armstrong Cable services Austintown, Boardman North Lima and other areas in Northeast Ohio. Customer service lines were inundated, and many subscribers could not get through. One who did, however, posted a notice on the comment board that a third-party company that directs traffic to internet sites was down, and there was no timetable as to when internet access service would return.

Man charged with resisting arrest

GIRARD

A city man faces charges of resisting arrest, driving under the influence and failure to control his vehicle after police say he ran a car into a utility pole.

Police reported Kirk Manofsky, 26, had attempted to flee the scene about 1:30 a.m. Sunday after running his car into a utility pole next to a Dollar General store on Church Hill Road.

An officer tackled Manofsky, who had been running away, in the store’s parking lot. Manofsky kicked, grabbed at and tried to bite police as they attempted to handcuff him, prompting an officer to strike Manofsky in the face, according to a police report. Another officer used a stun weapon on Manofsky after he continued to resist arrest.

Manofsky, who police said was covered in urine and smelled of alcohol, vomited in a police cruiser. He declined to submit to a blood-alcohol-content test.

He was arraigned Monday in Girard Municipal Court and will appear April 5 for a pretrial hearing.
