Robert R. Arms, 39, of Tarentum, Pa., reported to the Trumbull County Jail on Friday to serve 30 days for a crash that killed a truck driver two years ago on state Route 82 in Brookfield Township.

But he’s also got legal trouble back home to deal with when he’s free from jail.

Arms pleaded guilty in December in Eastern District Court in Brookfield to misdemeanor vehicular homicide and failure to yield for entering the westbound lane of Route 82, striking a westbound truck driven by Wayne R. Ayers, 56, of West Middlesex, Pa.

Arms was driving a furniture-delivery truck at the time and failed to yield the right of way while turning left at Warner Road, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Ayers died from his injuries March 22, 2015. The crash was Feb. 24.

Arms also is charged in Magistrial District Court in Brackenridge, Pa., with child-endangering, assault, harassment and unlawful restraint because of a Sept. 23, 2016, incident at a home in Tarentum, northeast of Pittsburgh.

Police said Arms’ girlfriend called police, saying Arms started an argument with her while holding their child, who was 4 months old.

She said Arms threw the baby onto the couch, then assaulted her. She said Arms “slammed me into the wall face first, then hit me in the face multiple times,” according to the documents.

She said Arms grabbed a picture off of the wall and began to strike her in the face with it, then threw her onto the steps, held her down and choked her. He let her up but continued to punch her, she said.

Police found injuries on the woman consistent with her account, the document says. Police also found the picture broken and broken glass.

The report did not indicate that the baby was injured, and the woman refused treatment.
