Man charged with disorderly conduct

AUSTINTOWN

A man arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct early Sunday told police he was allowed to urinate in the parking lot of a local bar.

Christopher Nichols, 43, of Lynx, was at the Pink Elephant, 6135 Mahoning Ave. According to a police report, he smelled of alcohol and was urinating in the parking lot as people walked by. After an officer told him urinating in public was a prohibited act, Nichols said, “I don’t [expletive] care, and it’s allowed where I’m from,” the report stated.

He’s scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Court here on Feb. 27, but he told police he would not show up.

Alberini re-elected to election board

WARREN

The Trumbull County Democratic Party Central Committee has re-elected Mark Alberini to the county board of elections.

The only other person under consideration was Randy Fabrizio.

The committee voted Monday at Trumbull Business College on Ridge Road, giving Alberini 56 votes to Fabrizio’s 6.

The choice goes to the Ohio Secretary of State for final approval.

Record donations by Second Harvest

YOUNGSTOWN

Second Harvest Food Bank distributed a record 10.5 million pounds of food last year to those in need in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

“We thank the many financial and food donors, volunteers, foundations, corporations, schools and organizations that were instrumental in helping us distribute more than 40,000 pounds of food each day from our warehouse,” said Mike Iberis, executive director.

Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley’s mission is to solicit, store and distribute food to hunger-relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties; and to provide education and advocacy.

Second Harvest is on Salt Springs Road.

Multiple felony charges

GIRARD

A man was arraigned Monday in Girard Municipal Court on multiple charges, including trafficking in marijuana.

Liberty police stopped Charles J. Edmonds II, 22, of Youngstown shortly after 11 p.m. Friday for running a red light at Belmont Avenue.

Police said Edmonds smelled of marijuana and had a suspended license.

Officers found a loaded handgun, more than $2,000 cash, a digital scale and suspected marijuana, LSD, heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine in Edmonds’ car, according to a police report. Police transported Edmonds to the Trumbull County Jail. He faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including improper handling of a firearm, possessing a firearm without a concealed-carry permit and possession of drugs.

Driver tosses item out window before pulling over for police

GIRARD

A man will be arraigned today in Girard Municipal Court after police say he threw drugs out the window of his car.

Richard Poole, 44, of Highland Park, Mich., faces charges, including failure to comply with the order of a police officer, tampering with evidence, driving under suspension and reckless driving.

Liberty police signaled for Poole to pull over about 5:30 a.m. Sunday at Colonial Drive near Biscayne Avenue due to a faulty exhaust pipe. According to a police report, Poole instead continued to drive and dumped a substance out of the window of his car near Gypsy Lane. Youngstown police headed off Poole’s car at Woodbine Avenue and placed Poole under arrest.

Officers searched the ground near Gypsy Lane and were unable to find anything; Poole told officers the bag he dumped had contained marijuana rather than “heavy narcotics,” the police report states.

Man admits stealing neighbor’s firearms

BOARDMAN

A township man will be facing a burglary charge at the Mahoning County Area Court here at 9:30 a.m., accused of stealing his neighbor’s firearms.

Township police arrested Christopher Woloschak, 32, of Brookwood Road, after catching him breaking into his neighbor’s apartment on Brookwood Road around midnight Saturday. Another neighbor in the apartment called the police about the burglary.

Woloschak admitted breaking in and stealing $2,399 of property, including ammunition and several firearms.

Paramedics use Narcan to revive woman

AUSTINTOWN

Paramedics revived a woman who was overdosing Saturday at a Beverly Avenue home, according to a police report.

When officers arrived, she was not breathing. Paramedics administered Narcan, a drug used to treat opioid-overdose to revive her.

The woman’s boyfriend told police she left the hospital early with a back injury against doctor’s orders. He also said she has a history of abusing painkillers.

While police did not find any contraband in the home, a firefighter overheard the woman’s sisters say they had purchased $40 of an unknown narcotic.

More fire station talk

Township trustees will discuss construction of a new fire station at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday. Earlier this month. trustees voted to accept 14 of the 15 submitted construction bids.

Last spring, the township finalized a land deal with the school district. In exchange for a 4-acre parcel off Tod Avenue for a new bus garage, the school district exchanged a 2-acre parcel at Market Street and Stadium Drive that is adjacent to Center Intermediate School for the new fire station. The township hired MS Consultants Inc. of Youngstown to design the station.

Crime Watch meeting

NORTH LIMA

The next Beaver Township Crime Watch meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 at Shepherd of the Valley, 9111 Sharrot Road. Nicole Welch, activity assistant at Shepherd of the Valley, will be guest speaker. Her topic will cover the signs and symptoms of depression. Local crime statistics also will be discussed.

Program on fracking

Professor John Stolz, director of the Center for Environmental Research and Education, Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, will be at the township administration building, 1315 Church-Hill Hubbard Road, at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Stolz will be speaking on “Lessons Learned from a Decade of Fracking in Southwestern Pennsylvania.” The public is invited.

Free lead tests canceled

WARREN

The Warren City Health District, 258 E. Market St., has canceled the free lead testing scheduled for the immunization clinic Feb. 27. The lead testing will be rescheduled at a later date, but the immunization clinic from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m. will continue as scheduled.

Clothing giveaway

YOUNGSTOWN

Victory Lutheran Church, 2110 Glenwood Ave., will have a free clothing giveaway from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Participants are to bring bags.

Coleman expansion

WARREN

Coleman Professional Services formally opened its new office at 103 W. Market St. on Courthouse Square on Monday. The location, at the corner of South Park and Market, is known as the Atrium Building.

“This additional space allows us to provide more clinical services and keeps our two locations close to each other in the downtown area,” said Tammy Weaver, Coleman vice president and chief officer for Trumbull County.

Coleman has provided behavioral health and rehabilitation services in Trumbull County since 2006. The new location will provide psychiatry, counseling, diagnostic assessment, crisis intervention, housing placement, peer support and employment services.

Coleman’s other Warren location at 552 N. Park Ave. remains open.
