Villa’s ‘Great Again’ dress boosts album sales

LOS ANGELES

The attention-grabbing “Make America Great Again” dress Joy Villa wore at the Grammys appears to have led to a bump in sales for her music.

Villa’s 2014 album, “I Make the Static,” was leading Amazon’s top paid albums chart over albums from Beyonce, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga.

The use of President Donald Trump’s campaign slogan on the dress she wore Sunday drew a strong reaction from Trump supporters and critics on social media.

Villa explained her decision to wear the dress in an Instagram post, writing “You can either stand for what you believe in or fall for what you don’t.” She added, “agree to disagree.”

ABC, People team up for Diana documentary

Princess Diana will be the subject of a four-hour documentary miniseries airing on ABC this August.

A joint project of ABC and People magazine, the program, to be telecast over two nights, will include what the producers say will be in-depth conversations with those who knew her best as well as archival footage of the Princess of Wales.

The program will “remind the world why they fell in love with Diana in the first place,” according to Monday’s announcement.

The program will mark the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death at age 36 in a car crash in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997.

Newscaster Josh Elliott gets fired by CBS

NEW YORK

CBS has fired newscaster Josh Elliott after being surprised by his live announcement that he’d no longer be working regularly at the network’s streaming service.

Elliott had a regular anchor shift at CBSN streaming service before saying on the air last week he’d be leaving to work on stories for CBS’ television broadcasts. That caught CBS brass off guard, and the network quickly put out a statement saying Elliott would be doing stories across CBS News, including CBSN.

In his announcement, Elliott also said that while it was his last day as anchor, “knowing how things work around here, I may see you again on Monday morning.”

Nope. CBS announced Monday that Elliott was gone. He’s worked at CBS and NBC in quick succession after leaving ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
