Jack and Jill helps host Youth Leadership Acadermy

The Youngstown Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Inc. will be partnering with the Youth Intensive Services YAA after-school program to host a Youth Leadership Academy from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 25 at East High School, 474 Bennington Ave.

Jack and Jill of America is a black organization of mothers who nurture future leaders by strengthening children ages 2-19 through chapter programming, community service, legislative advocacy and philanthropic giving.

Registration will take place from 9 to 9:30 a.m., and the workshops will begin at 9:30 a.m. Contact Dr. Tonia Farmer-Pitts at farmmd@hotmail.com or Jamie Bledsoe at jamiebledsoe@gmail.com for a registration form.

Children and teens in grades K-12 are invited to participate in workshops that will explore the topic “Proud to Be Me.”

The workshops will focus on personal responsibility and development, civil liberties, financial literacy, planning and career aspirations.

There will be age-appropriate training separated into four groups: grades kindergarten through second, third through fifth, sixth through eighth and ninth through 12th.

There also will be a parent workshop, so parents and guardians are encouraged to attend. Local representatives of organizations, businesses and universities will lead the workshops. Lunch will be served.
