POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

Feb. 3

Arrests: Police charged Jurita M. Perdue, 36, of East Auburndale Avenue, Youngstown, and a 16-year-old Youngstown boy with obstructing justice and obstructing official business, respectively, in relation to a series of car break-ins that had occurred last December in Hubbard. The teen provided a false name; also, Perdue lied about his identity, a report showed.

Breaking and entering: A Colliers Court woman discovered someone had pried a lock off a door to her shed before removing a $200 self-propelled lawn mower.

Feb. 6

Criminal mischief: A vehicle in the 600 block of Dorchester Drive was found with a broken rear window. Damage came to $400.

Feb. 7

Trespassing: After police responded to a possible burglary in the 200 block of Caroline Avenue, a woman told them her former boyfriend had been at her apartment.

LIBERTY

Feb. 4

Arrest: Austintown police handed to Liberty authorities Gregory R. Bass, 30, of Ohio Avenue, Youngstown. He was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Arrest: Police stopped a motorist for driving 53 mph in a 35-mph zone before taking into custody Philip Davis of Verona Avenue, Girard, who was charged with operating a vehicle impaired. Davis, 59, refused to submit to a breath-analysis test, a report said.

Arrest: Police charged Willie J. Green, 40, of Lansdowne Boulevard, Youngstown, with operating a vehicle impaired after having been pulled over on Trumbull Avenue.

Arrests: Police were dispatched to the Mahoning County jail to pick up Heather L. Church, 28, of Northwest Boulevard Northwest, Warren, and Justin D. Johnson, 34, of Maple Tree Street, East Liverpool. Both were wanted on township warrants.

Feb. 5

Weapon: After pulling him over in the 3500 block of Belmont Avenue, police charged Jon T. Arnold, 21, of Irondale, Ohio, with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle after saying a .44 Magnum rifle was in the back seat under clothing and other items. Also found were two rounds of ammunition in a cup holder, a report said.

Theft: A Masury woman reported having found her wallet at a Goldie Road big-box store, but that $200 was missing.

Arrest: Boardman authorities apprehended then handed Albert J. Stefek, 45, to township police. Stefek, of South Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a charge of failing to appear in court.

Drugs: A traffic stop near Mansell Drive resulted in the arrest of Demetrius L. Anderson, 22, of Roslyn Drive, Youngstown, on charges of drug abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a vehicle impaired when, authorities alleged, a small bag of suspected marijuana and a suspected marijuana pipe were found. Anderson also had a 0.156 blood-alcohol content, which is nearly double Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit, a report showed.

Feb. 6

Arrest: Warren police took into custody Heather Upole, 32, of Steel Street, Youngstown, who was wanted on an outstanding township warrant.

Truck theft/vandalism: A 2005 Ford commercial truck was stolen in the 1000 block of Trumbull Avenue, and two box trucks were damaged at an adjacent business.

Identity fraud: A Warner Road man found out someone had obtained his personal information and tried to access his checking account, though the transaction was voided.

Breaking and entering/criminal damaging: Someone broke into Belmont Motors, 2904 Belmont Ave., and stole about $9,000 worth of equipment, including a portable air compressor and a power washer. Also, the burglar emptied water from a fire extinguisher into an office area and damaged a vehicle.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 400 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road was found with a shattered rear windshield.

Breaking and entering: Two men who had entered property belonging to CR Electric Inc., 1200 Trumbull Ave., were reportedly seen on surveillance footage loading a $5,000 mounted transformer into their vehicle’s trunk.

Feb. 7

Arrest: An officer noticed a motorist had driven over a curb near Church Hill Road before charging James E. Cominsky, 46, with operating a vehicle impaired. Cominsky, of North Edgehill Avenue, Youngstown, registered a 0.297 blood-alcohol content, a report showed.

Trespassing: A Jo Ann Lane man told officers someone has been hunting on his property without permission.

Arrest: After answering a disturbance call at a Holly Drive residence, officers charged Shylinda W. McBride of Frederick Street, Liberty, with making false alarms and obstructing official business. McBride, 27, had made unmerited complaint calls against the Holly Drive woman apparently in retaliation for an incident between them last October; she also provided a phony name and phone number, police alleged.

Feb. 8

Arrest: A traffic stop near Belmont and Trumbull avenues resulted in a charge of operating a vehicle impaired against David R. Cobb III, 24, of Logan Arms Drive, Liberty.

Arrest: Police responded to a minor vehicular crash on an Interstate 80 off-ramp near state Route 304 before charging Donald J. Zarbaugh Jr., 27, of North Bon Air Avenue, Youngstown, with operating a vehicle impaired.

Feb. 9

Theft: A man reportedly used a rope to pull down a street sign at Cardinal and Yvonne drives before stealing the sign.

Criminal damaging/harassment: A Church Hill-Hubbard Road woman said a Columbus man, 35, made a call to her containing an implied threat. Beforehand, the accuser discovered someone had punctured one of her vehicle’s tires and used a key to scrawl an obscenity in the finish.

Feb. 10

Arrest: Youngstown police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue relinquished custody of Cody F. Moore, 23, to township authorities. Moore, of Griffith Street, Youngstown, was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant charging failure to appear in court.

GIRARD

Feb. 5

Burglary: To a vacant home in the 400 block of Indiana Avenue through a side door. Nothing appeared to have been taken, however.

Feb. 6

Harassment: A Mohawk Drive woman said she’s received a series of such text messages, along with 27 unwanted calls.

Feb. 7

Identity fraud: A Beaver Street man learned that his personal information had been used without authorization to open a cellphone account in Springfield, Ill., before a collection agency notified the victim he supposedly owes $980.

Feb. 8

Theft: A Girard woman who had misplaced then found her wallet saw that $4 was missing from it.

Domestic violence: Josef Mayoras, 22, of Stull Avenue, Girard, was charged with the crime after his girlfriend alleged that during an argument, Mayoras had choked then pushed her into a wall. The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital after having suffered a possible broken collarbone, a report stated.

Feb. 10

Theft: A man returned to his car in the 30 block of West Wilson Avenue and noticed a checkbook and a passport were missing.

Stolen property: Authorities charged Willie McConnell, 22, of West Liberty Street, Girard, with three counts of receiving stolen property and two of criminal trespassing after having responded to a report of a man entering vehicles in the 500 block of North Avenue. Property recovered was $104 in cash, a cellphone, a ring and several credit and debit cards.
