ECOT honor roll
The Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow (ECOT) announced that 1,374 students were named to the school’s latest “Honor Roll” or “Honor Roll with Distinction.” Students ending each quarter with a 3.0-3.499 GPA for that previous semester are named “Honor Roll” and students with a GPA of 3.5 or above will be named “Honor Roll with Distinction.” Among the 650 students named to the “Honor Roll with Distinction,” Ireland Holcomb of Poland made the list.
Overeaters Anonymous to have local meetings
Overeaters Anonymous is offering meetings at several local locations and on a variety of days. On Saturdays at 10 a.m., there will be a meeting at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in the Church Hall, Room 2, located at 4453 Warren-Sharon Road in Vienna, Ohio. This location is handicapped accessible. On Sundays at 7 p.m., there will be a meeting at Shenango Presbyterian Church, located at 3144 Wilmington Road (Route 18) in New Castle, Pa. This location is handicapped accessible. On Mondays, a meeting will take place at 1 p.m. at the Girard Multigenerational Center, located at 443 Trumbull Avenue in Girard. This location is handicapped accessible. On Wednesdays, a meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Valley Care - Northside Medical Center in the Medical Education Building, auditorium A, located at 500 Gypsy Lane in Youngstown. This location is handicapped accessible. On Thursdays at 6 p.m., a meeting will take place in Faith Chapel Fellowship Church, located at 511 E. Pershing St. in Salem, while at 7:30 p.m. a meeting will take place at New Life Lutheran Church, located at 1181 Churchill-Hubbard Road in Youngstown. GA to meet twice this week
Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting is offered every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another is offered every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (in Cornersburg). Both meetings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and last about 1-1/2 hours. Those who believe gambling has affected any part of their lives are urged to attend. Lions host Treasures of the Trunk Sale
The Poland Lions will host a “Treasures of the Trunk Sale” to benefit the Poland Lions Scholarship and Community Funds on June 10 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Poland High School stadium parking lot. The Lions are currently looking for venders for the one-day sale, including crafters, home goods, furniture, toys, specialty items and venders with garage sale items. There is a limit of 100 spaces, so reserve your space early. Registration is $10 per one parking space prior to May 1. After May 1, the cost is $15 per space. Venders must bring their own tables. Knitting guild to meet on Feb. 14
The Western Reserve Knitting Guild will meet on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Rotary Community Building in Fair Park in Canfield. A program of a knitted headband with right and left twists will be presented by Shawn Anderson. Those wishing to participate should bring size 8 US circular knitting needles, scissors, a stitch marker and a tapestry needle. The pattern will be provided. Friendly Squares to have monthly dance
The Niles Friendly Squares will host their monthly square dance on Feb. 11 from 7:30-10 p.m. at the Niles SCOPE Center, located at 14 E. State St. in Niles. Dress is casual and there is a $6 donation per person at the door. This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. The theme this month is Valentine’s Day, so wear something red if you so desire and celebrate the holiday with the Friendly Squares. Gene Hammond will be the caller. ABWA meeting to be Feb. 14
The Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association will host its Feb. 14 meeting at A La Cart in Canfield. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and costs $18. The menu consists of city chicken and lemon chicken, red skin potatoes, California blend vegetables, tossed salad, cole slaw, Jello, rolls and beverages and dessert. The guest speaker for the evening will be owner of Mr. Darby’s, Bob Neapolitano. The new store is on Market Street, next to Antones. A short meeting will follow. The public is invited. Historical Society to meet
The Poland Historical Society will meet at the Little Red Schoolhouse on Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. The Schoolhouse is located at 4515 Center Road (Route 224 and Struthers Road intersection) in Poland Township. Regina Rees will be the guest speaker at 7:30 p.m. with a presentation: “William Holmes McGuffey History.”
Plat Books available
An updated Mahoning County Plat Book is now available at the OSU Extension Office in Canfield. This publication contains township maps of the entire county, showing plat maps (including all rural landowners) with detailed information on each section. The book also contains an alphabetical list of land owners relating to the page and section of the plat book. The details of each parcel include the outline of the parcel, who owns the land and how many acres are included. The book is published by Farm and Home Publishers (FHP). FHP uses county and townships offices, ODOT information and 911 information to produce this accurate map. The sale of the Mahoning County Plat Book is a fundraiser for the Mahoning County 4-H program. This book makes a great gift for the avid hunter, hiker or bird watcher of the family. Updated full-color Index Maps show each township’s geographic location in detail. Each plat book is $25 plus tax (totaling $26.69). Bonding with babies and books and signs, oh my!
Come to the Poland library on Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. and learn how to use American Sign Language (ASL) with your child through rhymes, songs and stories, followed by time to play and socialize. Learn easy corresponding signs to learn and share with your little ones.

Meet and enjoy creating Lego designs at the Poland library on Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. Legos will be provided. This event is for children ages 6 and up.
Read to Roxie
Relax and read to Roxie at the Poland library on Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. Roxie is a registered therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International. Decorate an ornament for the all-seasons tree at the Poland library during library hours in February. This event is for children of all ages.
Willy Wonka and the chocolate fountain
You don’t need a golden ticket to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a scrumdiddlyumptious way. Join the Poland library on Feb. 11 at 11:30 a.m. for games and treats inspired by Willy Wonka himself. Create a Valentine, take home some lickable wallpaper and of course, dip some goodies in the river of chocolate. This event is for children of all ages.
Yoga class
Friends of PLYMC is sponsoring a Yoga Class every Wednesday in the Poland library meeting room from 5-6 p.m. Pay as you attend at $10 per session.
