Canvases and paint were set out at Beeghly Oaks as residents and community members spent an evening celebrating the winter season by painting snowmen and enjoying refreshments on Jan. 13.

Beeghly Oaks is decorating the facility with snow and winter themed crafts to prepare for their upcoming Snowball Gala in February. Some of the paintings will be put on display in the building while others took their paintings home with them.

Susan Jacobs, art instructor, has led paint and taste classes at Beeghly Oaks previously. The event is constantly bringing in a good turnout of residents, their family members, staff members and other people in the community.

Guests enjoyed pizza, cookies and refreshments as they worked on their paintings. Jacobs has a finished painting her fellows painters can use as a reference. Jacobs goes step-by-step of how to create the painting.

Maureen McCarty, activities director, said Beeghly Oaks faculty speaks to the residents to learn about their interests and what they enjoy doing in their free time. They use these interests to set up programs the residents will be eager to participate in and make them feel comfortable.

A new resident to Beeghly Oaks, Louis Carrozzino, really liked to paint and perked up at the opportunity to participate in a painting class. Carrozzino has been attending other programs since the painting program and likes to spend time with the other residents.

Beeghly Oaks hosts programs for not only residents, but for community members to enjoy.

The next public program Beeghly Oaks will put on is the Snowball Gala on Feb. 12.
