The results are in for the regional 2017 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards and several Canfield High School students received top honors.

This year, 37 CHS students submitted nearly 70 works of art.

American Vision Nomination, as well as a Gold Key, was awarded to Natalie Brown and Mya Kasten. Their work will compete at the national level along with other Gold Key works by Bailey Brocker, Lindsay Green, Raquel Markulin, Taryn Rothbauer, Alyssa Santoro, Emily Dunlap and Gabby Scianna. National Medalists will be announced in mid-March. Winners of the Gold Key award included Emily Dunlap, Gabby Scianna, Bailey Brocker, Natalie Brown, Lindsay Green, Mya Kasten, Raquel Markulin, Taryn Rothbauer and Alyssa Santoro. Winners of the Silver Key award include Bailey Brocker, Kate Jenkins, Aryana Osborne, Natalia Ritenour, Francesca Santon, Alyssa Santoro, Victor Stefanides, KayLee Whistler, Anna Hlaudy, Amanda Hoffman, Aidya Jones, Gabby Scianna and Lexi Sudac.

The Scholastic Awards are a nation-wide competition in the visual arts and writing and are open to students in grades 7-12. During the regional judging, student works can receive a Gold Key award, a Silver Key award or an honorable mention. In addition, there are five “American Vision Nominations” awarded from each region. These nominees are the top works in the show and, along with the works receiving Gold Keys, move on to compete in the national level of judging.

There was an awards ceremony earlier this month at Ford Theater on the campus of Youngstown State University.
