Although Boardman High School students had the day off of school due to a snow day, the band students came to the school the same evening to perform their annual Holiday Concert on Dec. 15.

The concert gave community members a taste of the band’s trip to Chicago with some jazz music and holiday music. The concert is free to the public and three different jazz bands perform. The concert is the band’s gift to the community for the holidays.

Each of the jazz bands, directed by Tom Ruggieri, performed three to four songs, some jazz songs and a Christmas song. Various students had instrumental solos while some sang a song during the band performance.

This was the first major jazz performance of the 2016-17 year.

The three jazz ensembles allow Boardman to stick out in the music department from other schools in the area and around the country. It is rare for schools to have as many different types of band ensembles as BHS does.

The Boardman High School jazz ensembles perform several times throughout the school year.

The band enjoys bringing the gift of music to people and places all around the community.
