Grand jury indicts Austintown man on murder charge in connection with Liberty shooting

A Trumbull County grand jury on Thursday indicted William Shakoor, 20, of Austintown on charges of murder and felonious assault.

U.S. marshals arrested Shakoor on Feb. 2 in connection with the shooting of Eric Dalton, 40, of Scioto County.

Liberty police found Dalton lying on the ground near a Catherine Street home about 5 a.m. Jan. 27. Dalton died Feb. 4 from a single gunshot wound to the leg.

Shakoor had been set to appear Thursday for a preliminary hearing in Girard Municipal Court, but prosecutors instead brought a direct presentment before the grand jury.

Shakoor will be arraigned today before Judge W. Wyatt McKay in the Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas. If convicted, Shakoor could face life in prison.

As of Thursday afternoon, a warrant was still out for the arrest of second suspect, Michael Curry, 21.
