Dollar General will open new stores

YOUNGSTOWN

Dollar General Corp. plans to create 10,000 jobs in 2017 as the result of 1,000 planned new store openings and two new state-of-the-art distribution centers. The creation of these jobs will be a roughly 9 percent overall increase to its workforce and mark the largest one-year employee increase through organic store and distribution center growth in the company’s 78-year history.

A new Dollar General location is under construction at 1370 Belmont Ave. Based on the company’s current construction timeline, the store is expected to open by late spring.

The store will employ six to 10 employees, depending on the individual needs of the store.

Ribbon cutting

CANFIELD

The Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will be cutting the ribbon on a new lab at the school at 5 p.m. Thursday. The RAMTEC, Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing Technology Education Collaborative will be unveiled to the public to show off the latest technology the career center has to offer students.

MCCTC has partnered with the General Motors Lordstown Complex on this project. GM manufacturing engineers visited the school in September to discuss the placement of the equipment and what they are looking for in future employees. Then in October, students in the Engineering and Auto programs visited the Lordstown plant to see the robotics equipment they use and how the plant runs. This mentoring relationship will continue.

The RAMTEC lab will be available to students enrolled at MCCTC as well as students in the Valley STEM +ME2 Academy.

Clinic event today

WARREN

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will have a ribbon-cutting event at 10 a.m. today for Athena Therapy Outpatient Clinic, 260 Niles-Cortland Road. The Athena Therapy outpatient clinic provides physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology services. The clinic is within The Chiropractic Center.

Closing sale

Boardman

Goldsteins Furniture, a retailer of furniture, bedding and home accents for 110 years, is having a store closing sale at its Your Home by Goldsteins store in Boardman, 340 Boardman-Poland Road, which is closing due to the sale of its building.

The sale will begin Wednesday. Opened two years ago, the Your Home by Goldsteins store is being consolidated into the neighboring Goldsteins Furniture store at 300 Boardman-Poland Road.

Goldsteins Furniture store will be expanded in the near future with an additional 20,000 square feet of display space.

Two other Goldsteins Furniture stores – in Hermitage, Pa., and Niles – and a Goldsteins Furniture Outlet in Boardman will remain open.
