McCutchen moving to right field for Pirates

PITTSBURGH

Andrew McCutchen is on the move, just not out of Pittsburgh.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle announced Sunday that McCutchen is moving from center field to right field this season. Gregory Polanco will flip from right field to left, with Starling Marte sliding over from left to center.

McCutchen, a five-time All-Star and the 2013 National League MVP, won a Gold Glove in center in 2012 but has seen a dip in his defensive performance recently, according to advanced metrics. Pittsburgh explored trading McCutchen earlier in the offseason, but he is expected to be with the team when the Pirates report for spring training later this month.

Hurdle called all three outfielders “selfless” for being open to the new alignment. Marte, an All-Star last year, is a two-time Gold Glove winner in left.

Cameroon rally wins African Cup of Nations

LIBREVILLE, GABON

Cameroon rallied from 1-0 down with two goals in the last half-hour, including a brilliant winner with a minute left, to beat Egypt 2-1 in the African Cup of Nations final on Sunday.

Substitute Vincent Aboubakar controlled the ball in the 89th minute, clipped it over a defender, and then shot past Egypt’s goalkeeper to clinch Cameroon’s fifth African title with a sublime finish.

Aboubakar ran all the way to the VIP enclosure to celebrate as his teammates chased him.

Singer botches national anthem at NBA game

NEW YORK

O No, Canada.

A Broadway performer botched the Canadian national anthem before the Toronto Raptors’ game in Brooklyn on Sunday, singing lyrics that aren’t in “O Canada.”

Amber Iman, who has been cast in the national tour of “Hamilton” that will soon open, sang, “O Canada, we sing our hearts for thee.” The line that ends the song is “O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.”

Raptors players and coaches looked around in confusion as they stood in line.

“I’m going to leave that alone. But yeah, that anthem was a lot different than I’ve heard over the last five years. A lot different,” Raptors All-Star Kyle Lowry said. “Her voice was beautiful, but the anthem, the song, the words ... have her come to Toronto, we’ll come and get somebody to give her some lessons.”

The Raptors responded by poking fun at the Nets on Twitter, writing “For future reference” and posting the correct lyrics to the song.
