Police identify North Side homicide victim
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
Police have identified a man found shot to death about 8:30 p.m. Thursday on a North Side street.
Clevael Workman, 23, of Youngstown, was found face down in the 700 block of Oxford Street about 50 feet away from a truck he was driving.
His death is the city’s second homicide of 2017.
Lt. Doug Bobovnyik said Workman was driving a truck with Alabama license plates when he was shot. Police were trying to determine Friday if he was in the truck when he was shot or if he had stepped out.
The truck belonged to Workman’s aunt, Bobovnyik said.
One of the things investigators will be trying to figure out is why Workman was in the area in the first place, Bobovnyik said.
No arrests had been made as of Friday.
Workman’s death comes on the heels of the shooting death of Christopher Bridges, 23, who was found Jan. 25 in a house on Republic Avenue on the East Side. Bridges had been shot several times.
There have been no arrests yet in that case, either. In 2016, Youngstown recorded 18 homicides. At this point last year the city had one homicide. The second homicide was not recorded until Feb. 17, 2016.
