Atty. Gargano files to run for judge

NILES

Atty. John S. Gargano, director of the Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services, is now the fourth person to file to run in the May 2 Democratic primary for Niles Municipal Court judge.

Gargano also is director of the Trumbull County One Stop and Child Support Enforcement Agency. He has served as an acting judge for Niles Municipal Court for 24 years. He also served as Niles prosecutor from 1984 to 1985.

Gargano, of Niles is a 1975 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, Youngstown State University and John Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University. He and his wife, Pamela, are parents of three adult daughters.

The current judge, Thomas Townley, has announced he is not seeking re-election.

Police investigate 2 armed robberies

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating armed robberies in two separate parts of town early Friday and Thursday evening.

About 2:30 a.m. Friday, a 25-year-old man told police he was walking from his job when a car pulled up to him at Garland Avenue and State Street on the East Side and someone in the car pulled a gun and demanded his money. The man gave them $172 in his wallet, and the car drove away, police said.

About 7:55 p.m. Thursday, a delivery driver called 911 from the 4000 block of Rush Boulevard on the South Side and said when he pulled in a driveway at the home he was sent to, a man was waiting with a gun and took $10 from the driver.

The robber refused the food the driver was delivering, reports said.

Suspect in Liberty shooting arrested

LIBERTY

U.S. marshals arrested one of two suspects wanted in connection with a shooting in the township last week.

Marshals arrested William Shakoor, 20, of Austintown on Thursday evening. He was processed at the Liberty Police Department and then taken to the Trumbull County jail.

Another suspect, Michael Curry, 21, is still at large. Both men face charges of attempted murder, aggravated robbery and illegal possession of a weapon.

Police found the victim, a 40-year-old Scioto County man, lying on the ground at Catherine Street about 5 a.m. last Friday. The victim, who was shot in the leg, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

Man reports being assaulted, robbed

WARREN

A Brookfield Township man, 65, reported being punched in the face several times and robbed of $120 at 8 p.m. Wednesday after he walked out of the Save-A-Lot grocery store, 1020 N. Park Ave.

The victim said the two attackers were inside the store while he was paying for something, and they followed him outside. The victim was treated at ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital for a black eye, he told police.
