The Austintown library brought warmth to the winter season during the Celebrate Summer event on Jan. 20.

Youth librarian Nikki Puhalla organized the event as a way to give the children an opportunity to get out of the cold weather funk and into warmer spirits. The Austintown library hasn’t hosted an event like this before, so Puhalla was excited to try something new for the children.

The room was filled with games, crafts and a snack all tied together with an ocean theme. There were goldfish crackers, crafts to make fish and other sea creatures and plenty of games for the children to participate in.

Puhalla said she was happy with the turnout for it being at a later time on a Thursday night. The program began with a story before the children went their own way to play games and make crafts. A table full of books about summer and the ocean were put on display and were available for the children to check out.

The children spent time at each section playing games and making crafts to take home. The program ended with a snack before the children went home. Puhalla said the Austintown library will be hosting more upcoming programs for both adults and children.
