Akron 86, Concord University 49

Malcolm Duvivier hit a career-high seven 3-pointers and finished with 24 points and six assists, Jimond Ivey also scored 24 points and Akron beat Division II Concord University 86-49 on Friday night. Duvivier, a graduate transfer from Oregon State, and Ivey combined for 14-of-23 shooting. Daniel Utomi added 18 points and 10 rebounds for Akron (7-5). Ivey hit a 3 to open the scoring and the Zips never trailed, using runs of 10-2 and 11-0 before scoring 13 of the final 15 first-half points to take a 44-16 lead into the break. Concord trailed by at least 28 throughout the second half. Tommy Bolte, the only Concord player to score in double figures, had 15 points on 4-of-13 shooting. The Mountain Lions made just 18 of 66 (27 percent) from the field, including 4 of 20 on 3-pointers. The Zips hit 12 of 25 from 3-point range and outrebounded Concord 48-33. Emmanuel Olojakpoke grabbed 11 boards and Eric Parrish had 10 rebounds — both career highs — for the Zips.

Toledo 85, Penn 72

PHILADELPHIA

Tre’Shaun Fletcher scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half, Jaelan Sanford added 19 points and Toledo pulled away in the final six minutes to defeat Penn. There were 15 ties and eight lead changes with Marreon Jackson breaking the last tie with a 3-pointer with 5:59 to go that put the Rockets ahead 64-61. Toledo missed its next two shots but made its final five, including a pair of 3-pointers and a dunk by Nate Navigato. The Rockets (8-5) also made six free throws in the final minute and was 12 of 13 in the second half, to go with 18 for 25 shooting, including 4 of 5 behind the arc. It is the second straight game they shot at least 70 percent in the second half. Navigato finished with 14 points and Jackson 12. Ryan Betley had 20 points, 11 in the first half when Penn (9-5), which had a four-game winning streak snapped, led 37-33. Darnell Foreman added 16 points and Max Rothschild had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

No. 2 Michigan State 111, Cleveland State 61

EAST LANSING, MICH.

Nick Ward had 22 points and 14 rebounds, and No. 2 Michigan State rolled to a victory over Cleveland State. The Spartans led 63-25 at halftime after shooting 74 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes — including 9 of 13 from 3-point range. Michigan State (13-1) is making short work of the weaker opponents on its schedule. The Spartans scored 107 points against Houston Baptist and 102 against Long Beach State. Joshua Langford scored 23 points for Michigan State, and Miles Bridges added 18 with eight rebounds and seven assists. Bobby Word scored 26 points for Cleveland State (3-10) and made seven 3-pointers.Michigan State finished 15 of 26 from beyond the arc and shot 65 percent overall. The Spartans led 18-4 after making their first seven shots from the field. It was 38-9 after a 3-pointer by Matt McQuaid. Cleveland State made a few outside shots of its own, but the Vikings could never do much to trouble the Spartans. Michigan State surpassed 100 points with over 51/2 minutes remaining.

No. 7 West Virginia 85, Oklahoma State 79

STILLWATER, OKLA.

Teddy Allen scored 15 points, leading six West Virginia players in double figures Friday night as the seventh-ranked Mountaineers rallied to victory over Oklahoma State in the Big 12 opener for both teams. West Virginia (12-1, 1-0 Big 12), trailed by seven early in the second half, but rode Allen, who scored 13 of his team-high points over the final 20 minutes. The Mountaineers, who won their 12th straight, got 13 points from Sagaba Konate, 12 each from Javon Carter and Daxter Miles Jr., 11 from Lamont West and 10 from James Bolden in a balanced scoring night. The Cowboys (10-3, 0-1), the nation’s No. 2 free throw shooting team entering the game, went just 11 of 19 from the line in the second half. Jeffrey Carroll and Tavarius Shine scored 17 points each to lead the Cowboys. Both teams claim defensive identities and it showed, as each reached a season-high for turnovers. West Virginia forced 21 turnovers and Oklahoma State 18, and the teams combined for 22 steals.

No. 11 Kansas 92, Texas 86

AUSTIN, TEXAS

Devonte’ Graham had 23 points and eight assists, converting six 3-point baskets, and No. 11 Kansas defeated Texas in the Big 12 opener for both teams. Kansas (11-2), which converted 17 of 35 3-point attempts, including 11 in the second half, won a conference opener for the 27th consecutive season. Lagerald Vick scored 21 points, making a career-best five 3s. Svi Myhailiuk added 20 points, hitting five 3-pointers. Sophomore center Udoka Azubuike had 13 points and a career-best 13 rebounds for Kansas. Freshman Mohamed Bamba led Texas (9-4) with 22 points, 15 rebounds and eight blocks, all season bests. Dylan Osetkowski scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half for Texas. Matt Coleman scored 17 for Texas.

No. 16 Kentucky 90, Louisville 61

LOUISVILLE, KY.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander came off the bench to score a career-high 24 points, PJ Washington added 16 and No. 16 Kentucky used several runs to blow out rival Louisville. Seeking to regroup after last week’s 83-75 loss to unranked UCLA, the Wildcats (10-2) used a 20-6 run to close the first half. Their 24-11 surge over 8:41 built a 67-38 lead that eventually reached 32, a gap helped by 57 percent second-half shooting. Gilgeous-Alexander finished 9 of 16 from the field to top his previous best of 15 points against Monmouth this month. Washington helped with 10 points down the stretch in the first half for a 41-27 lead that expanded as Kentucky earned its biggest series win since a 76-46 rout in the 1999-2000 season. Playing its first rivalry game in 16 seasons without coach Rick Pitino, who was fired in October amid a federal bribery investigation of college basketball, Louisville (10-3) couldn’t keep up after the early minutes. The Cardinals shot just 35 percent and had their six-game winning streak stopped. Deng Adel had 13 points.

No. 22 Texas Tech 77, No. 18 Baylor 53

LUBBOCK, TEXAS

Keenan Evans scored 18 points, freshman Zhaire Smith added 15 in his Big 12 debut and No. 22 Texas Tech rolled past 18th-ranked Baylor. Jarrett Culver finished with 13 points and Niem Stevenson had 11 points and a game-high five assists for the Red Raiders (12-1, 1-0 Big 12) in the first meeting out of 135 with both of these longtime conference rivals ranked. Mark Vital scored 12 points for the Bears (10-3, 0-1), who were missing Big 12 rebounding leader Jo Lual-Acuil because of a left foot sprain. Baylor was outrebounded 39-21, including 22-8 in the first half while falling behind 40-19. Culver hit a jumper to start a 14-0 first-half run for a 29-9 lead as the Red Raiders beat a ranked team while in the poll themselves for the first time since 2005. Bob Knight was the coach when 24th-ranked Texas Tech beat No. 11 Gonzaga 71-69 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. It was the third win against a ranked team this season for Texas Tech, which matched Oklahoma for the most wins for a Big 12 team over ranked opponents in nonconference. The Red Raiders, second nationally in points allowed and opposing shooting percentage, held Baylor to a season low in points. The Bears shot 30 percent in the first half and 37 percent for the game.
