“American Dad” (8 p.m., TBS): Now pay attention closely to this plot summary: When the Smiths are too busy preparing for Christmas to pay attention to Roger, Roger turns his attention to Steve’s friend Snot. Snot teaches Roger about Hanukkah, prompting Roger to convert to Judaism. Roger then decides that he can make Hanukkah more popular than Christmas by stealing Santa Claus’ powers and becoming Schmanta Claus. But, being Roger, he abuses his new Schmanta powers, leading the Smiths and Snot to find the real Santa Claus in an attempt to take down Roger.

“Call the Midwife Holiday Special” (9 p.m., PBS): The midwives battle snow, ice, power cuts and frozen pipes to provide patient care during the coldest winter in 300 years.

Cokie Roberts, the journalist and political commentator for ABC News and National Public Radio, will speak at Stambaugh Auditorium on Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.

In her more than 40 years in broadcasting, Roberts has won countless awards, including three Emmys. She has also written six New York Times bestsellers, most dealing with the roles of women in U.S. history.

In 2008, the Library of Congress named her a “Living Legend,” one of the very few Americans to have attained that honor.
