Meals on Wheels of the Mahoning County joined with Boardman Subaru for Subaru’s Share the Love Event from Nov. 16, 2017 until Jan. 2, 2018.

The two organizations are working together for the sixth year as a part of a national partnership between Subaru of America and Meals on Wheels of America. They collaborated to raise awareness for charitable work of Meals on Wheels and the end of the year sales and giving event with Subaru.

Subaru will donate $250 to a participating charity for every Subaru vehicle leased or sold during the event. The company will give back to Meals on Wheels of America if the customer lists the organization as their charity of choice. The money will then be distributed to the state and divided among Ohio’s Meals on Wheels programs.

“It’s great building community relationships,“ said Kathy Esseniyi, president of Meals on Wheels of the Mahoning County. She thanked Boardman Subaru and owner Rob Fellman for their local partnership.

Along with the donations, Boardman Subaru sent volunteer drivers to go deliver meals with the Meals on Wheels volunteers. Together, the two organizations are helping fight against hunger in the area.

Meals on Wheels of the Mahoning County also thanked their volunteers during the event. They displayed a tree at the D.D. and Velma Davis Education & Visitor Center’s winter celebration with heart-shaped pictures of their volunteers as ornaments to show, as Esseniyi said, “the volunteers are the heart of our program.“

The organization also gave out information regarding Subaru’s Share the Love Event and information about their group at the winter celebration.

Meals on Wheels of the Mahoning County delivers meals Monday through Friday. They serve an average of 400 nutritious, well-balanced meals a week. The organization began in 1979 and provides service throughout Youngstown and the surrounding cities.

The group always looks for new volunteer drivers, but they have an especially hard time during the winter season.

For more information on their service or to help volunteer, the organization can be reached at 330-744-3583.
