What: Experience the outdoor light display near the Davis Center, and the Toy Workshop and Reindeer Games. Browse the Shop in the Gardens and savor refreshments available for purchase in the Garden Cafe.

Joy to the Birds
When: Next Thursday, 1-3 p.m.
What: Let’s spread the joy of the season by lending a hand to our overwintering birds. We’ll create edible bird ornaments, then hike to place them on an evergreen tree.
Where: Ford Nature Center, 840 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown.
Cost: Free

OCVN Training
When: Jan. 19 through May 19
What: The Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist Training program promotes awareness and citizen stewardship of Ohio’s natural resources through science-based education and community service.
Cost: $175, includes training materials, refreshments and more.

Details: Those trained in the program are paired with parks, nature enters and other locations for volunteer service. Training takes place two Mondays per month and three Saturdays during the winter. For applications, visit http://go.osu.edu/naturalisttraining.
Master Gardener Volunteer Training
When: March 14 through May.
What: This training covers everything from herbs and vegetables to insects and plant botany. Volunteers help with community programs and clinics, including teaching programs throughout Mahoning County.
