Ed Rozum steps down as Red Devils coach

Campbell head football coach Ed Rozum will not return for the 2018 season.

Rozum notified Campbell superintendent Matthew Bowen of his decision on Wednesday.

Campbell athletic director Ron Aulet said Wednesday night the decision to leave came from Rozum.

Rozum coached the Red Devils four separate times over his career. His latest stint began in 2014.

Rozum led a 12-2 Campbell team to the 1989 state title game.

He had a 112-78 record over his 13 years with the program.

Aulet said the school is in the process of finding his replacement.

Thomas could play for Cavaliers next week

INDEPENDENCE

Isaiah Thomas played Santa Claus on Wednesday. Soon, he’ll be playing point guard for the Cavaliers.

Thomas said he could be on the floor in games as early as next week for Cleveland after being sidelined with a hip injury that knocked him out of last season’s playoffs. Thomas has progressed to the point where he will be scrimmaging 5 on 5 in the next few days with the possibility of playing in games with the Cavs before the year ends.

“When that time comes to where I’ll be out there, I’m sure everybody is going to know and I’ll be out there playing the way I’ve always played,” said Thomas, who hosted a holiday party for some area kids at the team’s training facility.

“I’m just trying to get as close as 100 percent as possible and to be out there to be special. Not just to be out there and be another body. However long that takes — it might be next week, it might be a week after that. We don’t know and we’re really not trying to put a date on it because it just depends on how my recovery is.

“I’m ramping up my workouts, but at the same time it’s how I feel the next day, and it’s getting lighter and lighter, which is a good sign.”

Thomas is as close as ever to making his debut with Cleveland, which acquired him last summer in the blockbuster trade that sent Kyrie Irving to Boston. Since training camp opened, the Cavs’ timeline for Thomas was for him to be playing games by the end of December.

NFL Network executive David Eaton resigns

NEW YORK

NFL Network executive David Eaton has resigned amid complaints about a hostile work environment for female employees — and a history of sexually explicit conversations on Twitter.

As the vice president and executive editor of NFL Media, the 53-year-old Eaton was in charge of news operations at the television channel and NFL.com.

“Last night David Eaton tendered his resignation from NFL Media effective immediately,” the network said in a statement Wednesday.

Deadspin first reported Eaton’s Twitter history and resignation.

According to screen shots of his account reviewed by The New York Times, the newspaper said Eaton engaged in sexually explicit conversations with accounts that belonged to adult-film actresses, as well as accounts in which users identified themselves as prostitutes and paid escorts.

NFL Network suspended analysts Marshall Faulk, Ike Taylor and Heath Evans last week, pending an investigation into claims of sexual harassment and assault made by a former wardrobe stylist. Eaton’s Twitter account was deleted a day later.

Turkey wants Kanter jailed for insults

ANKARA, Turkey

Turkey’s state-run news agency says prosecutors are seeking more than four years in prison for NBA player Enes Kanter on charges of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Anadolu Agency says an indictment prepared by the Istanbul chief prosecutor’s office accuses the New York Knicks player of insulting the president in a series of tweets he posted in May and June 2016.

Kanter said he wasn’t concerned and continued his criticisms of Erdogan, saying, “That dude is a maniac.”
