YOUNGSTOWN

Buckeye Health Plan will distribute 130 hams and 195 turkeys to 10 community-based agencies in Youngstown to help those in need have a complete holiday meal this season.

Ten organizations – Step into the Future, Meridian HealthCare, Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Program, United Methodist Community Center, Eugenia Atkinson Recreation Center, Niles Community Services, East Side Crime Watch Food Pantry, Salvation Army, Grace African Methodist Episcopal Church, Spanish Evangelical Church – will pick up donations at a centralized point in Youngstown this week. Donation recipients have been predetermined by each agency.

Shot in back

WARREN

A city man, 34, was driven by a friend to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital at 3:16 a.m. Sunday after being hit in the back by a bullet as he walked through a parking lot in the 2200 block of North Park Avenue.

The man reported the shooting Monday afternoon. Police said it was not life-threatening.

He said he heard several gunshots and started running, then realized he’d been hit in the back.

Woman injured in Warren shooting

WARREN

A female, 20, reported being shot at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday while in the parking lot of apartments in the Draper Street Southeast area.

She said she and her boyfriend were sitting in a car when two masked males asked her to roll down the car’s window. She refused and heard a gunshot. She drove away, realized she was hit and drove herself to the hospital emergency room, she said. Her boyfriend left the hospital before officers arrived, and the woman was evasive in answering questions, police said.
