Report: Woman arrested after drunk driving with kids in car

LIBERTY

A Cleveland woman was arrested after police say she was intoxicated early Sunday while driving with her children in the back seat.

Bridget Powell, 38, is charged with driving under the influence and child endangerment, according to a police report.

The report said an 18- year-old called 911 to report that he and his 8-year-old sister were in the car and his mother was driving drunk. Dispatch was able to pinpoint his location to state Route 11, the report said.

Liberty police set up on the route near Tibbetts Wick to intercept the vehicle.

The son told dispatch his mother was repeatedly stopping the vehicle and striking him while driving, the report said.

Officers caught the vehicle and pulled Powell over, the report said.

Powell told police they had been driving home from a wedding and she had two glasses of wine.

The son and daughter told police they were afraid they were going to be killed from the way Powell was driving. The son claimed he begged his mother to let him drive but she refused, the report said.

Powell was arrested after failing a sobriety test. The young daughter was turned over to her grandmother, the report said.

Powell is being held at the Trumbull County Jail.
