Fire destroys home in Hubbard; two escape uninjured

HUBBARD

Two people escaped without injury from a fire Sunday that destroyed their home on Thomas-Hubbard Road at around 12:20 a.m.

Fire departments from Hubbard, Brookfield, Liberty and the Youngstown Air Reserve Station worked to put out the fire, which had fully engulfed the house by the time firefighters arrived.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal, reported 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

The Trumbull County Tourism Board is looking for a new executive director with the announcement that Stephanie Sferra, executive director the last 11 years, is retiring June 1.

7th District appeals court takes hearings to Ursuline High

YOUNGSTOWN

In an effort to educate high-school students as to the operation of a state appellate court, the 7th District Court of Appeals will conduct public hearings on two pending cases at Ursuline High School, 750 Wick Ave., at 10:15 and 10:45 a.m. Jan. 17.

The matters to be heard are State v. Theodore Alexander and State v. Kimani O. Hodges, both criminal cases.

To promote community awareness of the appellate court, which serves an eight-county area, more hearings will be scheduled in high schools throughout the court’s jurisdiction.
