Car strikes bicyclist, 60, in Howland

HOWLAND TOWNSHIP

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Warren Post, is investigating a crash between a vehicle and a bicycle at 6:32 a.m. Sunday on North River Road east of North Road.

The rider of the bicycle, David Simmons, 60, of Warren, suffered minor injuries and was transported by Howland Township EMS to St. Joseph Warren Hospital. The driver of the car was Tiffany Evans, 25, of Newton Falls.

According to the OSHP report, the bicycle and car driver were both traveling east on North River Road. Evans was cited for failure to maintain an assured clear distance.

The cyclist was struck from behind and was ejected from his bicycle. He was wearing a reflective safety vest and driving on the eastbound fog line when he was struck, OSHP reported.
