The Junior Civic League of Youngstown recently crowned Amber Janae Bowie as Miss Cinderella 2017 during its 62nd annual Cinderella Ball gala at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center. This year’s theme was “Still I Rise.”

The court includes Jerrica Lynn Walker, first attendant, Mineral Ridge High School, escorted by Jarred Dominek Miller, Mineral Ridge High School; and Lauryn Patrease Laney, second attendant, Hubbard High School, escorted by Jonas Allen Rizzi, Hubbard High School.

Bowie is the daughter of James and Judy Bowie and attends Liberty High School and is a member of Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Honors and activities include Tri-M Music Honors Society, 2017 homecoming queen, cheerleading, student government, Liberty Leaders Club, musician and 2017 prom princess. Bowie plans to attend Youngstown State University and major in music production and performance. She was escorted by Justin Clark, Liberty High School.

The other debutantes were Rayvenne Michelle Bennett, East High School; Malaysia Monique Hunter, Chaney High School; Allexus Jahzell Minor, Valley Christian High School; and Myra Lynn Taylor, East.

Their escorts were Tylair Xavier Little, Warren G. Harding High School; Khalyeo Loreyce Bonner, Cardinal Mooney High School; Randy James Ja’von Madison, Valley Christian; and William Isaiah Peterson, Youngstown State University. Matthew T.H. Harper, Mooney, served as page.

Miss Cinderella 2016, Kailynn Grace Anderson, also was in attendance and spoke to those assembled, and music for dancing followed.

Scholarship sponsors included the Youngstown State University Foundation, Sherise Curd (1988 debutante), Dr. Rodney Hill and Associates in Women’s Health, Denise DeBartolo York, Community Bus Services Inc. and Youngstown Mayor John A. McNally. The ball is the sole fundraising event for the scholarship fund.

The Cinderella Ball chairwoman was Bea Baker, Charmaine Bracy was co-chairwoman and Frances Curd is JCL president.
