Young family drug case moves to federal court

A man investigators accuse of operating a drug ring out of an East Side apartment faces 20 charges in U.S. District Court.
Antonio D. Young, 22, sold crack cocaine out of an apartment on Kendis Circle from January 2016 through March 2017, according to a federal indictment.
The indictment lists 18 occasions in which Young is accused of selling crack cocaine over that 15-month period.
The two remaining counts of the indictment charge Young with maintaining a drug-involved premises and using a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
Young also will have to forfeit any property obtained through or used in furtherance of trafficking drugs.
In March, a Mahoning County grand jury indicted Young and four family members on 55 counts related to drug trafficking from the Kendis Circle apartment.
At a Nov. 28 plea hearing, county prosecutors dismissed the charges against Young. Federal officials took Young into custody the day before, according to court records.
He is being held without bail.
When law enforcement served search warrants at Young’s apartment in March, officers found $14,000 in cash and seven guns along with suspected heroin, marijuana and cocaine.
The federal investigation included the Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force, the FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Judge Solomon Oliver Jr. will preside over the case in Cleveland.
The March indictment also included Reginald Young, 33, Lenaurius Young, 22, Brittanni Davenport, 24, all of Kendis Circle, and Daryl Young, 45, of Lauderdale Avenue.
The Youngs all pleaded guilty in November.
Reginald Young pleaded guilty to trafficking in cocaine. Lenaurius Young and Daryl Young pleaded guilty to trafficking in cocaine and trafficking in heroin.
Prosecutors will recommend 18 months in prison for all three men at sentencing hearings set for Jan. 3. Davenport’s case is pending.
